WHY DO ACCIDENTS OCCUR?

Car accidents are a common occurrence in Oklahoma City and around the state. The roadways are becoming more crowded, heavy construction work causes more driver frustration, and irresponsible road behavior is more common now than ever before.
Car accidents can happen anywhere at anytime. Many people feel that you are more likely to be injured in a car accident in a crowded environment or while driving at night. Severe injuries from car accidents can range anywhere from permanent disabilities to death.

Common types of vehicle accidents

  • Auto Accidents- Motor vehicle accidents are responsible for many avoidable injuries and fatalities each and every year. According to current statistics, car accidents kill over 1 million people annually. Even worse, motor vehicle accidents are believed to be responsible for 40 million injuries annually.
  • 18 Wheeler Accidents- Around 500,000 trucking accidents occur every year in the United States. Of these, approximately 5,000 trucking accidents result in fatalities. In fact, one out of every eight traffic fatalities involves a trucking collision.
  • Alcohol Related Accidents- Driving while either intoxicated or drunk is dangerous and drivers with high blood alcohol content or concentration (BAC) are at greatly increased risk of car accidents, highway injuries and vehicular deaths. It is estimated that approximately three out of every ten Americans will be involved in an alcohol related accident at some point in their lives.
  • Automobile/Pedestrian Accidents- When a pedestrian is involved in a motor vehicle accident they are at risk for countless serious injuries or death. Pedestrians’ head, legs, and arms are the most vulnerable in an accident. Almost two-thirds of the 1.2 million people killed annually in road traffic crashes worldwide are pedestrians.
  • Boating Accidents- Many boating accidents are caused by the negligence of the operator. Increasing popularity of leisure boating often creates crowded waterways that increase the chance of an accident.
  • Construction Zone Accidents- Small or improper warning signs, narrower roads and the presence of construction workers make it important for drivers to heed slower speeds and drive cautiously. However, careful driving does not always prevent construction zone accidents. Construction companies may be liable for their negligence at the construction site.
  • Motorcycle Accidents- The failure of motorists to detect and recognize motorcycles in traffic is the predominating cause of motorcycle accidents. Motorcycle drivers or passengers are more exposed, both to general bodily injury and to head injury, and their injuries are often more serious than a comparable impact involving autos.
  • Single Vehicle Collison- A single vehicle collision is a type of road traffic accident in which only one vehicle is involved.  Included in this category are run-off-road collisions, collisions with fallen rocks or debris in the road, rollover crashes and collisions with animals.
  • Train Accidents- People can also suffer railroad injuries when they are traveling by train, or driving or walking near railroad crossings or tracks.  According to the Federal Railroad Administration, about 3,000 train accidents occur in the United States each year, leading to about 1,000 deaths annually.
